R.I.P. John Nuese (The International Submarine Band)

International Submarine Band guitar player John Nuese has died. R.I.P.

Guitarist and songwriter John Nuese was in a band called "The Trolls" in 1965. (The Trolls featured not only Nuese, but also Lowell "Banana" Levenger, a guitarist and keyboardist who was a founding member of the Youngbloods, and bassist Michael Kane, who followed Levenger into the Youngbloods in 1971).
Later that year, Nuese fell in with Gram Parsons at Harvard, where they formed Gram Parsons and the Like. The Like became the International Submarine Band, and gradually focused on country music, which Nuese had reintroduced to Parsons. Nuese stuck with Parsons in the second version of the ISB, who recorded Safe at Home (LHI, 1968).

The Byrds - My Way (written by Jimmi Seiter)

The Byrds - My Way

Written by Jimmi Seiter

The Byrds - My Way (Volume 1) is a first-hand description of the inner workings of the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers: written by James 'Jimmi' Seiter (Road Manager, and much more). It sets the record and previous assumptions straight as to what was really going on, from detailed personal, first-hand experience. He takes you on his journey which began in 1966, telling his version of events as he lived them in the form of 42 stories. It elaborates on the hard work that went on behind the scenes, to make the magic of music happen on stage. The book recounts the daily happenings of a few of America's foremost Rock/Folk/Pop bands of the 1960's & 1970's.

This book is the first in a series of 10 volumes. It begins with the Byrds, continues on to the Flying Burrito Brothers (which was a spin off band from the Byrds) then back to the Byrds. It moves on to working with Terry Melcher, Bruce Johnston, Brian Wilson, Alice Cooper, David Cassidy, and back to The Flying Burrito Bros. The author's path has also crossed with many other great artists such as Stevie Wonder, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, and John Denver, to name a few.

The e-book is also now available at AMAZON, APPLE-I BOOKS, BAKER & TAYLOR – BLIO, BARNES & NOBLE, COPIA, E BOOK PIE, GARDNERS, KOBO and READER STORE – SONY

Dorothy McGuinn dies at 102

From Roger McGuinn's Folkden Page:

"I turned 70 on July 13, 2012. People were shocked! So was I. That’s why I decided to record this song for the Folk Den on July 14.
Last night, July 31, my brother Brian called to tell us that my mother Dorothy had passed away just three days after her 102nd birthday.
We’d spent the day with her in Tucson where my grandson James and I had played guitars and sung her favorite songs to her."
