Gene Clark Sierra Box Set of unreleased recordings is shiiping

Yes, finally Sierra Records' release of the hybrid SACD of "Gene Clark-the Lost Studio Sessions 1964-1982"  is out and being shipped now to all the pre-release, advance order customers!  They are going out the door as fast as I can ship them. Yes, other mail order companies are also carrying the Sierra release but at a higher price and the availability at those sites is extremely limited.  I know that for a fact since their initially orders for the album were quite low and they won't be ordering again until next month.

The album will be sold out this month!  This will be your last opportunity until after the first of the year to purchase the album at the current introductory price as shipping will end for the year on December 17, 2016 and not resume until after January 7, 2017.

Place your order now at:

Every effort will be made to ship your order as soon as possible but I am up against Christmas and shipping will be limited as a result.  So order now to avoid the last minute rush!

Coming up next month is the "Randy Meisner-Take To The Limit" vinyl only audiophile album and more surprises.

Your support is needed now more than ever so that in 2017, Sierra Records can continue to release significant, some thought lost or long out of print recordings and more!

We're celebrating Gene Clark's birthday in style!
I have been waiting for months to have the pleasure of making the following announcement. On Thursday, November 17, 2016, on what would have been Gene Clark's 72nd birthday, Sierra Records is proud to announce that we will begin shipping our long-anticipated release, The Lost Studio Sessions 1964-1982.

To those of you that might have been waiting until now, the current prices at the Sierra website will remain in effect ONLY until November 28, 2016 (the official commercial release date of the album).  After that date, remaining copies of the ULTIMATE LIMITED EDITION, the single hybrid SACD/CD and the 2-LP audiophile vinyl set will increase as follows:

Ultimate Limited Edition: $94.98
Hybrid SACD: $34.98
2 LP vinyl set: $45.98
(plus shipping and handling)

As an extra bonus, all the 2 LP vinyl records are being pressed on 200 gram vinyl, not 180 gram as originally advertised, as soon as they are sold out, the 2 LP set will revert back to 180 gram vinyl. Hurry now and place your order to take advantage of the lower prices before we sell out of the first production run!

Lastly on this topic, please be advised that any current listings that you may see on Amazon other online websites for The Lost Studio Sessions as an "import" emanate from Sierra's distributor in Japan, to whom we will be supplying product in a few weeks after December 1.  The physical copies being offered on Amazon and other sites are identical to the ones currently being sold through Sierra directly.  Sierra's North America distributor, Alliance Entertainment Corp, will be offering the album as well to it's hundreds of retailers after December 1.

Happy Birthday to Us!
This month also marks the 45th Anniversary of this company I founded back in 1971.  I had just returned to California after spending the last part of the summer living with and traveling up and down the Eastern seaboard with Doc and Merle Watson.  With encouragement from people like Doc and Clarence White I started the mail order company, with advertisements placed in Bluegrass Unlimited and Muleskinner News magazines.  It has been a rewarding journey and a unique opportunity to share the music I love with all of you.   But rest assured we're only getting warmed up! Lots more surprises on the horizon!
RIP Leon Russell 1942-2016
We at Sierra Records were saddened to learn of the death of Leon Russell, a pivotal figure in rock music during the 1960s and 1970s. An extraordinary musician/singer/songwriter/arranger, Leon’s arrangements on two of the songs from Gene Clark's sessions in early 1967 appear on the new album ("Back Street Mirror"/"Don't Let It Fall Through"), and stand as ample reminders of -- and tributes to -- his musical genius.

Finally, I would like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone for your patience and understanding through the challenges we have faced during the making of this album. In the end I'm sure you will agree that it was indeed worth the wait.

Very truly yours,

John York Concerts

JOHN YORK is one of a small handful of musicians alive today who was one a member of the legendary 60s folk-rock band, The Byrds. But, he’s also played and toured with Sir Douglas Quintet, the Mamas and the Papas and Johnny Rivers. He has most recently recorded and toured with Barry McGuire along with his own band known as The Jangle Brothers featuring Chad Watson and Billy Darnell. Seeing York in concert is not only bringing classic folk-rock songs alive, but making them urgent and relevant to today.

New STARBYRD CD to be released on November 7th.

The new Starbyrd CD “Stardust” will be out on Nov. 7th.

The album features 12 brand new original songs rich in the jingle jangle sound of the 12-string Rickenbacker guitar.

The release of the album is scheduled for November 7th, 2016.

Extract from the liner notes written by "Jangle On" columnist Eric Sorensen:

Stardust is the title of the latest offering of original tunes from the ever prolific German singer/songwriter Horst-Peter Schmidt.  Also quite appropriately, Stardust continues to carry the folk-rock torch from its 60s origins to the present. The majority of the songs on Stardust are mid-tempo tunes that feature Schmidt’s chiming Rickenbacker 370RM – with the snap, crackle and pop that only this guitar’s internal compressor can generate.  Starbyrd music continues to be linked to influential folk-rock predecessors like the Byrds and Roger McGuinn, as well as other 60s artists.[…]”

Dear Friends:
Good news for all of those who placed an advance, pre-order for Gene Clark The Lost Studio Sessions 1964-1982! It is with great excitement that we may now announce the release and start of the shipping date for the Ultimate Limited Edition, CD/SACD (aka Hybrid SACD)  and 180-gram vinyl sets is September 8, 2016!
Although we freely acknowledge that this date comes later than any of us expected, I would like to take a moment to fill you in as to the main causes for the delay. After reading, I'm sure you will agree with us that these factors were necessary and/or unavoidable in order for us to bring you the best-sounding, most comprehensive, compilation of unreleased Gene Clark material ever released.
Reasons for delay
  • Discovery of additional tracks - After the first of this year, we struck upon a clutch of extra tracks, specifically those that constitute the '72-era songs in the set. It was felt that the extra time and considerable expense taken to restore and remaster this material would, in the end, offset any disappointment caused by the delay.
  • Though we had the original 16 track masters of the 1982 recordings of "Nyteflyte", we continued to have audio problems due to the fact the tracks employed a now obsolete noise reduction process (DBX Type 1) causing unwanted, unacceptable distortion.  At the eleventh hour, Jim Dickson's original 1982 mix of these tracks were discovered in an unmarked box. These were the final mixes Dickson and Eddie Tickner submitted to try to get them a record deal. These did not exhibit any of the audio problems that were encountered with the now 30+ year old 16 track tapes.
  • Vinyl pressing plant delay - We were completely blindsided by the news that a previously discussed pressing schedule would not be honored. It was this final blow that necessitated our adjustment of the release date.
We fully understand any disappointment that you might be feeling about the release date. Believe me, we are as anxious to get this music to you as you are to hear it. However, we must stress that it was out of an abundance of care and respect for Gene Clark's music that we could not lower our standards and rush-release this collection of bona fide treasures.
In a way, it's fitting that this material will see release in September. It was in September, 1967 that actor David Hemmings released his Happens LP, featuring his vocal on Gene's "Back Street Mirror".
Forty-nine years to the month later, you will be able to hear the original vocal for the song, as performed by its author.
The song has come 'full circle' back to Gene Clark.
And fifty years ago this September will mark Gene's brief return as a Byrd performing at their first ever appearance at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood and followed by their engagement at the Fillmore West, San Francisco. Gene would leave thereafter to complete his first solo album for Columbia Records.
To the remaining of you who have yet to order, but have been waiting for whatever reason, the only way to insure that you can receive your copy in September of the Ultimate Limited Edition (containing the DVD Gene Clark interview),  just the CD/SACD (aka Hybrid SACD) or the 2 LP vinyl set, you must place an advance, pre-release order now.  If you wait until September, the prices will be increased, and you order will be shipped after all the advance, pre-release orders have been shipped.
As an even further bonus, two more additional Gene Clark studio tracks have been located and they will be included on a separate compact disc that will be sent in September, free of charge, with your regular order to everyone who has placed an advance, pre-release order by July 1, 2016. If you already placed such an order since February, you will receive the "second bonus CD". To place your order, go to:

To everything there is a season, and for Gene Clark fans this is a time to reap.

To everything there is a season, and for
Gene Clark fans this is a time to reap.

With the upcoming release of Gene Clark The Lost Studio Sessions 1964-1982, Sierra Records is poised to present what will be the most significant and comprehensive collection of Gene Clark archival material ever released.
It is an opportunity for us to hear tracks which had, up until now, existed only as mysterious titles in the back pages of rock tomes like Johnny Rogan's Timeless Flight Revisited.

Now you don't have to imagine how Gene would have sung the exquisite chamber pop of 1967's "Back Street Mirror." Gene's stirring vocal, long rumoured to be wiped or lost, will be heard publicly for the first time in 49 years!
Hear it for yourself!
And if this were the only track of such monumental importance included in Sierra's set, it would still be worth every penny.  But in truth, it is only one track of 24 (not to mention the other four tracks featured on the Bonus Acoustic Sessions set, making it 28 previously unreleased recordings in all!).  When one considers that the Ultimate Limited Edition includes the following highlights, then for Gene Clark fans it's an automatic purchase:
  • Gene fronting the Flying Burrito Brothers (with Gram Parsons on piano) for a spirited rendition of Dillard and Clark's "She Darked The Sun":

  • Nearly an album's worth of White Light-era solo songs -- recorded at a time in which Gene was arguably at his peak as both singer and songwriter then this set is, for Clark fans, an automatic purchase Gene's final recordings with fellow ex-Byrds Chris Hillman and Michael Clarke
  • Guest appearances by a veritable who's who of country rock, including Clarence White, Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Al Perkins, Bernie Leadon
  • A never-before-seen DVD of a 1985 interview with Gene Clark
  • Liner Notes by Byrds biographer Johnny Rogan, Clark/Burritos biographer John Einarson and noted rock authority Domenic Priore
  • Received NOW a 4-song "Bonus Acoustic CD" of additional Gene Clark solo performances.

Become a noted participant in preserving Gene Clark's musical legacy!

Your purchase of The Ultimate Limited Edition entitles you to have your name permanently listed in the booklet credits as Production Associate.
By becoming a Production Associate on this project, you are teaming up with us here at Sierra Records to keep Gene's music and spirit alive.
Let's work together to preserve Gene Clark's beautiful musical legacy. Order The Ultimate Limited Edition now at
PLEASE NOTE: Because of time constraints, Sierra has set a cutoff date of April 10 for you to order The Ultimate Limited Edition.
There will also be an increase prices.
